This month we honor Martin Luther King, Jr. by learning about his life, what he stood for, and how his work impacts us today. In kindergarten, sometimes the idea of inequality or injustice can be a difficult concept to understand. These FREE Martin Luther King, Jr. printables are a great way to teach these difficult concepts to young children.

It is hard for many young children to understand that someone’s skin color could be thought of as a reason to treat them differently. For that, I am very grateful – as that shows a great testimony to all that Dr. King stood for!

Each year as I read stories and share this part of history with young learners, I am always in admiration of their care and respect for one another, and I truly wish sometimes we could all see things through the eyes of a kindergartner.

Read alouds can be such a positive thing and can lead to so much discussion. Before and after read alouds we often do turn and talks with partners, or out loud “wondering” of what we want to know.

After reading some of these books aloud, I love to have my kinders reflect on what dreams they have for themselves, their family, or the world using the printables I created.

There are writing prompts with just picture space, prompts for beginning writers, and prompts for more advanced writers.

In addition, there is a short vocabulary page with pictures that we will color and words we will talk about in Kindergarten.

I love to incorporate these activities to pair with our read alouds. They extend the learning while making it more meaningful and fun!

  1. Martin's Big Words is one of my favorite read-a-louds is Martin's Big Words. We also do a writing and craftivity. Our library specialist found some great online links with info on him as well. I am going to be sharing them on the blog in the next day or two. Thanks for the freebies!
