My youngest daughter started out in Kindergarten after the summer break. She is relishing the new environment and all the new things she is learning. To help her on her letter-learning journey, we have been practicing at home. We have had a blast learning and reinforcing letters with this fun Blowing Bubbles Alphabet Sensory Bin. It is sure to be a hit with your kids too!

Inspired by her love for blowing bubbles and all things water play, I combined these two elements to make a fun alphabet sensory bin.
Its aim was to help introduce and reinforce the letters she has been learning and will be learning in class.
Getting hands-on with new concepts in a sensory bin is a great way to provide a relaxed learning environment for your child.
Supplies
Getting Ready
I loaded our foam letter set into a large plastic tub. Then I added a generous squirt of dish soap along with some warm water.
My daughter was at the table waiting. She already had a spoon in her hand and had found a second tub when I set down the water-based sensory bin on the table. She was ready to play!
Exploring the Sensory Bin
She looked a little confused when I handed her a drinking straw, as we had already had our drink and snack. I quickly explained that I needed her to make the water even more bubbly, and I asked her to use the straw to make this happen.
Recognition spread across her face and she dove straight in with her straw and blew up lots and lots of bubbles.
Always remember to remind your child to blow into the straw and not suck up the water before making bubbles with a straw.
This wasn’t just a fun way to settle her into the activity. It also meant that the letters were covered over even more with the bubbles, making the bin even more enticing to dig into and explore.
Once the bubbles were on the verge of tipping over the edge, she was happy to move on to the next part of the activity.
She happily scooped up the letters with her ladle and poured them out again, while we chatted about the different letter names and sounds that she was finding.
We then moved on to a game of “Hunt the Letter Sound.”
As the year goes on we will be revisiting this activity to work on finding her name and words she is learning.
Bella then took the activity into her own hands. She decided that she had had enough learning and just wanted to play with the letters. So she got stuck into making up a big batch of imaginary “Letter Soup” to serve to her teddies.
The best part was she didn’t even realize that all of the scooping and pouring was providing an excellent workout for her developing fine motor skills.
This would also make for a really fun activity for a group of kids in a Kindergarten class to play together – it’s especially perfect if you have a parent volunteer! You could also skip the straws in that setting where it may be a little more crowded to monitor as closely.
