Apple Ten Frame Clip Cards
I teach Kindergarten, and we spend a lot of time working hard on developing our early reading and writing skills. Learning to write is much more than holding a pencil. We need to build up the strength in those writing muscles and we can do it in all sorts of fun ways!
Play with playdough, stamps, use tweezers in sensory bins – anything that gets students using those writing muscles and forming that grip. One of my favorite ways to incorporate this into our daily activities is to use clothespin clip cards. Opening and closing a clothespin is a great thing for little hands to do to build up fine motor muscles. Plus – the kids love them!
How to Prep and Play
First, I printed the cards and laminated them so that they would be sturdy for repeated use.
To set them up, I put clothespins and the cards in a basket out in the math center.
The students pick up a card, identify the number shown in the ten frame, and use a clothespin to clip the correct number. Learning to recognize quantity in a ten frame quickly is also an important math skill, and this game is great for practicing that in a fun way!
